Springfield, Missouri - The Red-Light Camera Scam
(2008|March|30) by James Maddux
I gotta move.
<blockquote>Some local governments have ignored the safety benefit of increasing the yellow light time and decided to install red-light cameras, shorten the yellow light duration, and collect the profits instead.
….
The city of Springfield, Missouri prepared for the installation of a red light camera system by slashing the yellow warning time by one second at 105 state-owned intersection signals across the city. In a 2005 Texas Transportation Institute study, a one-second reduction in yellow time resulted in a 100% increase in the number of violations (Table 6-2). Each violation under Springfield’s new system will bring a $100 fine to city coffers after ticketing begins on June 1.

IF YOU GET A $100 DOLLAR TICKET IN THE MAIL IN SPRINGFIELD MISSOURI, MAKE THE CITY PAY FOR IT. FOR THE NEXT YEAR BUY NOTHING IN SPRINGFIELD. GO TO REPUBLIC, NIXA, OR OZARK AND BUY OFF THE INTERNET. THESE PLACES CAN SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEEDS. SPRINGFIELD WILL BE THE LOSER.
THEY ARE ONLY DOING THIS FOR THE REVENUE NOT YOUR SAFETY
That would be a great idea, if only it weren’t punishing the storekeepers and citizens of Springfield.
The best thing to do is to raise awareness and let people know what is really going on. The municipal government is becoming very corrupt, and if the people do not realize it, it will only get worse.
And while this whole deal is just a rotten scam, it’s best to just drive slower and more alert anyways. There won’t be any problems, then.
Oh, and please don’t type in all capital letters. It can be quite difficult to read. Just a bit of picky netiquette
